It is an exciting time in the life of our St. Joseph community as we prepare to mark the 150th anniversary of our Parish and the 50th anniversary of our Church. To celebrate these milestones, we are embarking on the Journey of Grace 150 capital campaign to renovate our Church and Parish Service Center (former Grade School), with needed improvements that will not only serve us, but the next generation of parishioners.
For 150 years, by the Grace of God, our ancestor parishioners have continued to build St. Joseph Parish into the thriving community we are today. The many buildings on our vast campus stand as a testament to their Catholic Faith, their generosity, and their commitment to the next generation. It is now our turn to preserve and improve the buildings entrusted to us for the future.
The impact and influence of St. Joseph Church is a huge part of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Our church is known as a pace-setter among the faith community, both for its reputation for stewardship and charity in the region, and for its rich legacy and tradition of Catholicity in education and other ministries.
St. Joseph Church was the first Catholic church in Shawnee, and the second in all of Johnson County, Kansas by a matter of weeks. Since the founding of the parish, at least two additional Catholic parishes have sprouted from our congregation, Holy Trinity Church in Lenexa and Good Shepherd Church in Shawnee. In addition, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in western Shawnee was established within the former boundaries of St. Joseph after the Sacred Heart church was destroyed by fire in Bonner Springs, KS.
