The campaign to renovate St. Joseph Church

Narthex

A Welcoming New Narthex

The planned new narthex at the renovated St. Joseph Church will provide both a grand entrance to the Church and a spacious gathering space for parishioners and guests who enter on a flat surface from the new east side entry doors and covered drive-through entrance.

"Narthex" means "gathering space" -- we hope this beautiful new area will encourage fellowship among parishioners and be a beacon for the community of our welcoming spirit here at St. Joseph.

At their tallest point, the narthex windows reach 27 feet, providing generous natural light for this new gathering area. Comfortable seating areas will be arranged to give guests a place to rest during overflow Masses at Christmas and Easter, as well as at funerals and weddings. A small counter area will be incorporated for coffee and drink service in this space.

New accessible restrooms will be added, and a new, relocated parish gift shop will face the gathering space, inviting Catholics and guests to peruse the wonderful assortment of gift items and religious articles.

Video screens will be mounted so that the Mass inside the sanctuary can be shown for overflow crowds. When not in use for Masses, messages, bible verses, saint profiles and other Catholic content can be displayed.

As worshippers approach the new glass entry doors into the sanctuary (at left, not shown in this rendering), they'll pass a large holy water font to prepare themselves for their entry into the sanctuary for Mass or sacramental services.

See all the renovations.
